ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Isleta Casino and Resort announced on Tuesday that it is planning to open a brand-new sportsbook.

What To Expect

The resorts CEO Harold Baugus said that they are planning for the casino to offer “Las Vegas-style sports gambling” when the sportsbook eventually opens. Locals might have a sense of familiarity when they come to this sportsbook. That is because the sportsbook provider for the Isleta sportsbook is going to be USBookmaking, the same provider that the Santa Ana Star Casino uses for their sportsbook.

Details on what exactly the sportsbook is going to offer have not been revealed just yet, but Baugus is excited to unveil what they are planning to offer in the future. What we do know is that the casino is planning to open its new sportsbook sometime in the early summer.

New Mexico’s Third Sportsbook

Once the Isleta Sportsbook opens up sometime this summer, this will be the third sportsbook to open in New Mexico. New Mexico became the fifth state to offer Vegas-style sports betting after the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) was struck down by the Supreme Court.

After PASPA was struck down, the states were allowed to choose for themselves whether or not to legalize sports betting. This led to many states today having bills being considered to legalize sports betting. But New Mexico did not have to go through this process.

The native tribes in New Mexico have a compact between them and the state. The compact in New Mexico states that the tribes are allowed to offer Class III gambling in their casinos. Since sports betting is considered Class III gaming, the state did not need to pass sports betting legislation and they were free to open up sportsbooks almost immediately.

Now the Isleta Sportsbook is going to be the third venue for sports betting in New Mexico. This news comes six months after the very first sportsbook opened up in New Mexico. Baugus is hoping that the sportsbook can open as early as summer. At the very least, you should expect this location to open up before football season kicks off.
